Stage 4 - The Count Down Plan for Your Cool Baby Shower Party

Staying In Control For The Magic Shower of Joy

Week 4: Final Details
We're just about there now! Let's see: We've covered off the planning and arranging and done the preliminary shopping. With the event just days away, we can enjoy the run up to Party Time. If you're occasionally feeling a touch apprehensive, that happens to us all.

Cool as a Spring Shower - Enjoying the Party
Just take a few moments to sit quietly and calm yourself. Try this for a one minute meditation: think of yourself as the grand junction for the event, everything and everyone involved pivoting around you. Imagine or visualize all the problems of everyone around this event - the caterers, the location managers, the guest of honor and all the invitees. Breathe in slowly and imagine all their worries and problems being inexorably drawn away from them towards the grand junction of this event - yourself. When you've breathed all that in, briefly acknowledge that that explains your feelings of unease. Now taking firm hold of your determination, breathe out slowly imagining that all the lines of communication, plans and paths that everyone will be following to this event are gently opened and that there is magic in the air. Repeat that 3 times whenever you think of it and make yourself effortlessly aware that everything will work out fine. Now, off your butt and off we go!

Completing the Menu and the Final Shopping
The next thing is to review the menu. Would you be impressed and happy to see a spread like this? The secret is to relax and let that magic flow - if nothing amiss comes to mind, that's it. Now you can feel confident that the shopping trip will bear fruit. After all you've written down all the things you've planned for, the ingredients, the drinks, snacks and fun things for meal placing, whether it's buffet or sitting in set places. You can check through your first shopping spree to see if you put off or ordered some that now needs to be collected. What if there's a lot of food left over and the event is in a private location - that can be dismaying. Make that possibility into a feel good event. Plan to have some boxes and sufficient clingfilm to hand out appropriately. Who to? To mothers to send to their kids school the next day; to a homeless organization, perhaps not a weight-watchers club, but somewhere. Otherwise just bin it happily.

Baby Shower Party Reservations - For You Alone?
Have you ever been to an event only to find someone's fowled up and double booked the venue, or not noted down that their premises needed to close early to prepare for your event - you're being squeezed into some half pint room? There could be a hundred reasons, but you're making sure it doesn't happen to you for this one with a simple phone call. Just ask a few relevant questions about the room, the menu the seating, the flowers and all the arrangements. Confirm when you or your team has access for putting in your own final touches. Then your peace of mind deepens.

Extras
Here are some other ideas that you might want to take care of in this last week before the baby shower:

  • Designate a photographer and/or videographer to capture the event for the parents-to-be
  • Set out disposable cameras at the baby shower so guests can snap impromptou shots
  • Take a photo of each guest with the parents-to-be as they leave the baby shower, and include the photo with each thank you note
  • Create a gift tracker and designate a gift recorder so you know who to send a thank you card to (one is included free in the Deluxe Planning and Games Kit)
  • Have a small back pillow and footstool for the mother-to-be so she can be comfortable

Party Day is here - Let's All Celebrate
Baden Powells's advice to Girl Guides and Boy Scouts was "Be Prepared!" We are so we can enjoy the party. All events have hitches and most people adjust and shrug them off. As the organizer, you need to cue the shrug offs for the others with that inscutible acceptance and understanding that nothing's perfect. (It's really true by the way - not just some clever words.) You can expect there to be some last minute arrangements and they just happen with the flow - wow, this is great! Making a list makes sense so go with that and write down the progression through the final stages - any last minute collections and deliveries. Make sure your party room is arranged for lots of flow for everyone as it keeps the energy going, and people can easily sit out of the flow as and when they want a social pause.

So that's the recipe for your successful function. The final thought is to keep a natural poise, be yourself and join in the joy!
