Creating an Adorable Keepsake with
an Easy to Use Baby Handprint in a Tin

Capturing your Tiny Baby's Handprint or Footprint in a Decorative Tin Kit

A Baby Handprint in a decorative tin – very simple, cheap and smart
This is a very common (and even easier method than the wood- or tin-framed kit) for creating an impression of your baby’s or even your pet’s hand, foot or paw imprints.

It consists of a prettily decorated, circular tin usually about six inches in diameter containing a white modeling or molding clay or plaster.  You simply take the lid off and impress the hand, foot or paw into the ready-made clay mix.  What could be simpler than that?  This is the cheapest method, and the result really is very good;  giving a clean print with all lines clearly visible.  This really is very simple  -  you could even say it's child's play for parents and children alike.

Generally the clay needs to be of a consistency firm enough to retain an accurate mold.  So a degree of pressure is required to create a depth of impression. For the younger babies of below four to five months, you may not be able to provide the pressure for a deep imprint.  You will be able to create the form of the print, but this may need a simple bit of coloring to highlight it.  Indeed, many people intend to paint their baby’s hand or footprint anyway.  Of course if the kit includes a plaster of paris mix to add with water, you can just make the mix softer by carefully adding more water.

This Easy-to-Use Baby Hand or Footprint Kit is sold on a few sites.  I’d like to suggest Mamabear's Baby Boutique  -  well worth a browse.  They sell one for just $10 called:"Capture baby's tiny handprint in a decorative tin".

They also have a matching Baby's 1st Year Time Capsule  -  a very sweet present for storing your child’s earliest keepsakes.  It's a neat product and presently costs $17.  So then it's really good if you remember to get your favorite newspaper's front page for the day baby is born to include;  or simply as a keepsake in its own right.  Of course nowadays, you can also record the television news programs on the day your baby is born and put them into a DVD format for the years to come.  They also have other footprint products to personalize including an attractive keepsake plate or picture.

The Tower of Time for handprints is a very popular product of this baby imprint genre.  It consists of five tins of increasing diameters containing molding clay.  This allows you to take imprints of your child's hand once a year for the first five years, or over whatever period you like.  If you’ve got a large young family of children and pets, this handy pack may well be a perfect opportunity to scoop them all  -  make a special little occasion of it.  Although it is specified for handprints, if you wanted to use it for making a series of footprints every six months, that would cover the first 2 and a half to three years of your own room child.

We would make a general observation of the difference between the picture frame and tin baby print sets.  From the display aesthetics, and although it may take a little longer to complete, most people would agree that the wooden baby footprint frame kit is a more impressive product, particularly if you want to have the imprint on display in a main reception room.
